The ballet "Red Giselle" will once again conquer the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre.

Her tragic fate, intertwined with creative ups and downs, emigration, wanderings "across foreign lands," personal dramas, betrayal by loved ones, and, finally, imprisonment in a mental hospital for twenty years—the plot for an entire novel. Boris Eifman was moved by the ballerina's plight and decided to dedicate a performance to her. The title came naturally: Giselle as a tribute to the role Spesivtseva performed brilliantly, and "Red" as a reflection of the revolutionary events in which she, as the prima ballerina, found herself caught up. The appearance of "Red Giselle" caused a real sensation. For several years, the production was successfully performed on Russian and international stages, but was eventually removed from the repertoire.

Boris Eifman returned to the performance about Spesivtseva's fate in 2015, updating the choreography but completely preserving the plot. The new version of the production boasts more emotion, passion, and expressiveness, making it one of the modern ballet masterpieces set to the music of Tchaikovsky, Schnittke, and Bizet. The set design has also been updated, becoming even more expressive, poignant, and heartfelt. "Red Giselle" conveys the tragic fate of more than just Spesivtseva. It is a dedication of sorts to all the talents and geniuses of art who, for various reasons and at different times, were forced to leave their homeland and accept a tragic fate. The appearance of this production on the Alexandrinsky Theatre stage is a gift to all true ballet lovers.
