"Apollo Musagetes" on the stage of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre

Exactly 94 years ago, the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's ballet Apollo Musagete with choreography by George Balanchine took place in Paris. This production went down in the history of neoclassical ballet art, and also became the starting point for the creation of Boris Eifman's one-act performance Musagete, dedicated to the talented choreographer of the last century.

The productions are connected not only by the name, but also by the ideological structure. In Balanchine's work, the central figure is Apollo, surrounded by three muses - Terpsichore, Polyhymnia and Calliope. Eifman makes Balanchine his main character, who in the course of the performance encounters his own muses – women who in one way or another influenced the choreographer’s work.

Boris Eifman’s ballet “Musaget” was first presented to audiences in 2004 in New York, and on June 17 and 18, an updated version of the performance will be available to St. Petersburg residents. You can see the performance at the graduation concerts of the Dance Academy. The leading soloists of the Theater Oleg Gabyshev and Daniel Rubin will perform in the part of George Balanchine.
