Swan Lake Anniversary at the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre

"Swan Lake" is a world choreographic masterpiece. The famous ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in four acts to a libretto by Vladimir Begichev. It was first shown on March 4, 1877 on the stage of the Moscow Bolshoi Theater. The author of the original choreography is Wenzel Reisinger. It is believed that this version was extremely unsuccessful, but it was with it that the history of one of the most famous ballets in world history began.

Twenty years later, viewers saw a version staged by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. In modern history, this ballet has been staged more than a hundred times. Its interpretations were offered by such directors as Yuri Grigorovich, Konstantin Sergeyev, John Neumeier and Matthew Bourne.

Maestro Boris Eifman has his own attitude to "Swan Lake". According to the choreographer, it was this production that changed his life 60 years ago. Watching this ballet left an indelible impression on the master. That is why a flock of swans periodically appears in many productions of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theater. Among the recent works are the performances "Tchaikovsky" and "Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA". Also, in one of the recent works called "The Seagull. Ballet History", the main character Boris Trigorin works on staging his own "Swan Lake" and then presents it to the audience. This is how the famous Odile, Odette, Siegfried and Rothbart periodically appear in Eifman's productions.
